“Bunny’s face softens, as if remembering a distant memory" ~ extract from the official script of Rise of the Guardians.
I…I can’t. I’m sorry I just. Cant.
For those of you who don’t know, in William Joyce’s book series, The Guardians of Childhood, Bunnymund is an alien from the Golden Age (home to Sandy, Pitch Black and the Man in the Moon). When Pitch first led the attack on the Golden Age, the Pookas, Bunnyumnd’s people, were wiped out, leaving him as the only survivor.
Bunnymund is the last of his species.
Bunny had a family! He may have even had a CHILD Sophie’s age!!!
This is astounding, because either Joyce told the filmmakers about Bunnymund’s past before he left the project, or the team went the extra mile and gave Bunny a past where he had a family (not so that the audience knew about it, but so THEY knew about it. So they could properly represent Bunny as a character with depth and layers, and properly justify his rough personality, yet caring and hopeful nature).
Either way, this cute relationship I used to adore has suddenly become a whole lot more depressing. DreamWorks! why would you hurt me like this?!
